The Opera Festival - Amazonas
20 Mar 2012 - 29 Apr 2012
Place: Manaus - Amazonas Theatre
The Amazonas Opera Festival is an annual event which takes place between April and May every year at Teatro Amazonas, a belle époque opera house in Manaus.
The festival is a great occasion to visit the opera house, opened in 1896 during the heyday of Brazil's Rubber Cycle.
Considered the most important architectural heritage site in Amazonas State, the opera house has a capacity of 700 and was completely restored in 1990. Besides the staging of operas and the gathering of Brazilian and international musicians for chamber concerts and other musical presentations, the festival is also known for its academic programs.
When the festival happens there will be thousands of tourists visiting this amazing place and to watch opera performances as well as various musical concerts. In addition to these scheduled attractions, each Amazonas Opera Festival has a few surprises in store.
These surprises take the form of guest soloists and national talent from around Brazil. Past guests include such renowned ensembles as the Amazonas Chorus and Dance Corps, the Amazonas Philharmonic Orchestra, and last but not least, the Claudio Santoro Cultural Center Orchestra and Musical Groups.
