Fauna and Flora City Tour

In this trip, you have the opportunity to learn a bit about the flora and fauna of the state of Amazonas, which is usually difficult to observe in a natural forest. Most of these points are located in green areas in the city, where work is on to develop research and preserve fauna and flora species.

Inpa Institute of Amazon`s Research: located in the middle of the city of Manaus. It is one of the last green areas and refuges for the Sauim-de-coleira or Macaco de Manaus (saguinus bicolor) and other species of that area. This place fosters river manatee (peixe boi or cow fish- trichechus inunguis) reproduction, the only fresh water manatee in the world.

Natural Sciences Museum: This is a place where  you can see some fish species and insects of the region. The main focus here is to preserve these species. They include fish such the Pirarucu (Arapaima gigas), the largest fish of the Amazon that can grow up to 3 meters in length. It is considered the Amazonian`s cod fish for its meat which is very soft and tasty.

CIGS Zoo is a military zoo, which is located on the western side of the town and is maintained by the military ministry. However, it is open weekdays to the public.

Here you can observe rare animals such as the painted jaguar (panthera onca), sucuris or anacondas (eunectes murinus) and several species of monkeys living in an open place in complete harmony with nature.

The idea of this tour is to show about how important these parks are for the region. Only in these places, the biologist, botanics and other professional can develop their studies to preserve the local fauna and flora.
