Created in 1981, located in the heart of the Amazon, about 70 kilometres northeast of Manaus -Am, and with about 400 islands, the Anavilhanas Ecological Station's main purpose is to protect and preserve the fauna and flora of this amazing and huge archipelago.

The archipelago is the newest Brazilian National Park created in the Amazon region. The Anavilhanas Ecological Station is located on the Negro River, the third biggest Amazon's River Tributary. Its hundreds of islands of elongated shape are covered by trees of many species, forming an intricate network of canals, which are considered as one of the most beautiful river's landscapes in the world.

The Black River in this section has approximately 24 km width, from one side to the other side, and about130 metres of depth.

The site hosts an important ecological station administered by the state. Anavilhanas has preserved forests, rivers and beaches. According to the researchers of the INPA (National Institute for Amazonian Research), the water of Black River and its tributaries inhibit breeding of mosquitoes, make the environment pleasant especially in comparison to other regions of the tropical forest.

The tour offers guests an unforgettable trip on board of speed boats to enjoy this amazing archipelago and visit natural lakes, where the fauna and flora are so abundant. You will be impressed by this amazing beauty of this paradisiac place, which is known as Amazon Forest.

The lunch prepared in a local native's house is another surprise. You will taste the local flavors and may try the river fish roasted on barbecue with local specialities such as farinha-de-madioca (manioc flour, the tucupi sauce and local fruits like cupuaçu, Brazilian nut, etc...).

All these are waiting for you in a fantastic tour in the Negro River.
