The proximity of Manaus to the forest and the river offers the tourists who visit the city, many opportunities for contact with the jungle and the attractions it offers. In addition to knowledge about the Amazon, the visitor has the opportunity to learn about local culture and observe the rich biodiversity of the region.
The tours along the rivers are made in comfortable riverboats with the opportunity to walk through the streams, visit the houses of riparian to buy handicrafts and observations of the fauna and flora.
The Meeting of Waters (Portuguese: Encontro das Águas) is the confluence of the Rio Negro, a river with dark (almost black) coloured water and the sandy-coloured Amazon River or Rio Solimões, as it is known in the upper section of the Amazon in Brazil.
For 6 km the river's waters run side by side without mixing. This phenomenon is due to the differences in temperature, speed and water density of the two rivers. The Rio Negro flows at about 2 km per hour, at a temperature of 22°C, while the Rio Solimões flows between 4 and 6 km per hour, at a temperature of 28°C. After the "Meeting of the Waters", the boat leads for greener parks. The most common, due to proximity, is the Janauary Ecological Park, where tour guides explain the local flora and fauna with the sighting of right-royal victories and rubber.
It is one of the main tourist attractions of Manaus, Brazil.
